In April Phiona and her coach, Robert Katende, will be sharing their stories, and the many other successes of chess as an education tool in Uganda, with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle. With the generous support of the Gates Foundation to bring Robert and Phiona from Uganda, and the support of Sports Outreach supporters, chess enthusiasts and programs, we are traveling across the country for school and church presentations and small-scale joint fundraisers that will help us expand program offerings in underserved communities in the US and help Sports Outreach Institute build a new chess academy as part of the new Kampala education complex being built in Uganda.

The events begin on April 19 in Portland, Oregon with an appearance at the Citywide Chess Tournament sponsored by Chess for Success, a non-profit chess in education program serving children in Title 1 schools in the area. Phiona and Robert will also be the keynote presenters at the Game Changer Luncheon on Monday, April 21 to help support this great cause as well as our Uganda programs.

In the following 3 weeks we travel from Portland to Tacoma, Seattle, Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, Greenwich, New York, Memphis, Philadelphia, Wilmington NC, Hampton Roads, Lynchburg, Charlotte and Washington, DC. Follow the team by signing up for our newsletter, liking Phiona on Facebook.  For public events we will indicate that on the event schedule to the right and on our page: USA 2014.
